Arkansas State University Newport’s Manufacturing Technician Program was designed with local manufacturing industry in mind and prepares students for high paying careers in food production, steel production, and equipment manufacturing.

Program Highlights: This 90-hour hybrid training program features a combination of online learning, hands-on labs, and in-person instruction. 

Students who successfully complete the program are ready to enter the workforce immediately with skills and competencies for high paying positions within manufacturing.

Students will complete 45 hours of in-person labs and instruction, then 45 hours of online virtual learning. Program modules are scheduled monthly.

Credit can be awarded for prior work experience and demonstrated competency.

Admission Requirements: To be considered for the program, students must be 16 and participate in program orientation.

In this 4-hour course, students learn how to use standard measurement tools used in manufacturing. Instruction will include how to align, calibrate, and read tape measure/rule, calipers, and micrometers. Material covered will include measurement related math principles of calculating fractions and decimals, using the metric system, and conversions. Competency will be demonstrated through practical application. Students will use various tools to measure dimensions of known objects, and check part dimensions to determine if they meet tolerance standards.

The Forklift Operator course satisfies OSHA training standards for employees who operate forklifts as part of their job. Topics Include forklift basics, types of forklifts, forklift body parts, inspection checks, safe operation, and material handling. The course includes three hours of classroom instruction and a skills demonstration that allows participants to practice the safe operation of a forklift.

Students will use various tools to develop understanding of their functions. Competency will be demonstrated through practical application.

In this course we will discuss and demonstrate the value of building trust,  as a strategy for developing effective workplace relationships.  The course will highlight the value of building trust within your work teams and the impact on your organizational culture.  This workshop will provide insights into how team members can build trust and how to create a more engaging, fruitful, and productive work environment.
